The Circle of Life
We are raising our kids wrong.
We judge, label, value certain attributes, boast and flaunt them, put them in our "profiles".
We try to get the right occupation, car, neighbourhood, clothing size, spouse, number of offspring, travel itinerary...all on a limited time course.
We gauge others' happiness based on their acquisition of what we deem acceptable..."They're doing well" we say.
If we have kids with any semblance of independent thought they go through a superficial "rebellion" of this, likely during the teenage years. Then they predictably follow our lead. It is all they have known, usually.
As they embark on trudging through the rat race, we, if we have any residual untainted thought processes, have come to realize the fruitless and insignificant nature of our value system.
But it's too late to change them, we are now old farts whom others must simply tolerate due to obligation. And who are we to talk anyway, after already doing what we're telling them not to do.
Sickens me.
Oh well....I'm off on a cruise.
